Fat, Broke and Busy: Escaping America's Never Enough Culture

For Beyond 50's "Personal Growth" talks, listen to an interview with Jeff Gaines. He'll talk about our society that is obsessed. Many performers, athletes, companies, etc. feel that they have to give more to get noticed. What this is really about is the pursuit of happiness - and most Americans believe that happiness lies in 10% more than whatever they have now. Why has Miley Cyrus's performance become such a lightning rod of controversy? Is the problem with Miley Cyrus? ...or with us? How is one to know when enough is actually enough? "The 'Never Enough' culture is a mindset that says whatever I have, it's not enough. It is ingrained into the American way of life so deeply that most are not aware of how and when it affects us. The effect of it can be seen in who we pay attention to and idolize. Tune in to Beyond 50: America's Variety Talk Radio Show on the natural, holistic, green and sustainable lifestyle. The Real Crash: How to Save
Yourself and Your Country
For Beyond 50's "Finance" talks, listen to an interview with Peter Schiff.  A renowned American broker and economist, he's sounding the alarm about America's
coming bankruptcy.  Schiff accurately predicted the Housing Crash of 2008 more than a year before it happened.  He argues that our country is enjoying a government-inflated bubble - one that reality will explode...with disastrous consequences for the economy and for each of us.  Zero interest rates and Quantitative Easing (QE) are enabling our government to issue endless debt.  His prediction is that the financial crash of the U.S. dollar is likely to happen.  He'll
offer suggestions on how to turn it around.

Remembering Muhammad Ali

In loving memory of Muhammad Ali, Beyond 50 will be interviewing Tim Shanahan who had a 40-year friendship with the champ.  The live interview is on Friday, June 17 at 12 p.m. (PT)/3 p.m. (ET).

In 1976, Shanahan was a living in Chicago and was associated with a charity that arranged for athletes to speak to underprivileged kids. Ali was also living in Chicago, having just reclaimed his title as heavyweight champion of the world.  When Shanahan contacted Ali to ask whether he would consider participating, not only did the Champ agreed, but he went so far as to invite Shanahan to his home so he could learn more about the program.

The two spent several hours talking; it was the beginning of a forty-year friendship that continues today.  As their unique friendship evolved, Ali began inviting Shanahan to his sparring sessions and eventually to his Deer Lake, Pennsylvania training camp where he prepared to fight greats like Ken Norton and Earnie Shavers.

Here are some of Shanahan's experiences with Ali outside of the ring:

"Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee" - The man behind the famous rhyme - Drew "Bundini" Brown had been in Ali's corner since 1963.  He was a bit of a mooch and whenever he wanted something from Ali (usually money), he'd present a sob story and work himself into a fit of tears until Ali would give in - either because he pitied him or because he just wanted to make the crying stop.

A Great Regret - He didn't feel he had gotten the full benefit of a higher education.
Ali would often put down his own ability to read and write, which was a shock because of his quick mind for wit and wordplay.

A Fan Favorite - Ali never turned away a fan.  He never forgot how he felt when his
hero, Sugar Ray Robinson refused to sign an autograph when he was sixteen years old.  "No punch ever hurt as much as that did."
