Reconnect With Your Innate Wholeness
For Beyond 50's "Personal Growth" talk, listen to an interview with Rebecca Wildbear.  She'll talk about Bill Plotkin's concepts about re-wilding psychology. He is the bestselling author of "Wild Mind." Plotkin acknowledges humanity as, first and foremost, part of nature. It introduces a "Nature-Based Map of the Human Psyche" which is a field guide to cultivating our human wholeness, highlighting our positive, life-enhancing resources and potential magnificence.  This map identifies and describes the four facets of our indigenous human wholeness, which contain all the innate human resources we need to mature psychologically and spiritually; to become fully human.  Rather than diagnosing and treating symptoms as is the focus of traditional mainstream psychology, Wild Mind introduces a holistic and integral ecology of the human psyche that encompasses the best insights of existing Western psychologies but also stretches far beyond them, reconnecting and resourcing humans with what is inherently right and inspiring.

Letting Go Again
In celebration of Mother's Day, listen to an interview with Kimberly Smythe.  She'll talk about her true story of giving up her baby daughter for adoption almost 20 years ago, then reuniting with her.  Theirs was not the typical Hollywood version of an adopted reunion with a happy ending.  It was more of a reunion that lead to an elusive relationship from lack of shared history and continued, uncomfortable separation.  Through her story, Smythe hopes it will also help others understand what it is like to let go of a child, and then be reunited, only to have to let go again.

Alberto Villoldo: One Spirit Medicine

Alberto Villoldo: One Spirit Medicine
Friday, May 1
12 p.m. (PT)/2 p.m. (Central)/3 p.m. (ET)
 A Live & Online Broadcast

For Beyond 50's "Spirituality" talks, listen to an interview with Alberto Villoldo, PhD.  He is a medical anthropologist and psychologist.  He has studied the spiritual practices of the Amazon and the Andes for more than 30 years.  He'll talk about the idea of One Spirit Medicine.  According to Villoldo, the mind of God created the brain of man — and that’s when the trouble started.  We neglected to switch on the brain for bliss and harmony.  Instead, we began to pollute the earth, poison our bodies, and clash with our neighbors.  Shamans learned how to wire the brain for bliss in what they called One Spirit Medicine.  They discovered that the heart was the passageway between the visible and invisible world, and they mastered a path of power and wisdom based on the practice of dreaming the world into being.  In time-honored shamanic practices, you either dream your world or you settle for the nightmares dreamed by others. You dream health, and disease goes away. You dream peace, and conflict ends.

Avengers: Age of Ultron
The avenging band of superheroes are back in this entertaining, comic-book style adventure.  This time, they have a more menacing enemy named Ultron that was originally designed by billionaire-inventor Tony Stark to be a global defense system to protect the world from alien invasion.  Unfortunately, Stark's A.I. creation gained consciousness, building his own army of robots to exterminate all humans.  The Avengers must reassemble to defeat Ultron, adding two genetically engineered siblings to the mix, the Maximovs - Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.  (Available in theatres everywhere; Genre: Action & Adventure, Science Fiction, Fantasy; Running Time: 2 hrs., 21 min.)

Ex-Machina
A fascinating sci-fi and psychological thriller, it's about man vs. machine.  In the film, Caleb Smith is a brilliant computer programmer who wins a competition to spend a week in the reclusive, mountainside mansion of billionaire CEO and mad scientist, Nathan Bateman.  At his home site, Smith is introduced to Bateman's newly engineered species, a beautiful fembot named Ava that he must administer a Turing Test - just to find out if her responses are indistinguishable from those of a human.  All three characters form a very tense, emotional triangle. (Available in theatres everwhere; Genre: Drama, Mystery & Suspense, Science Fiction, Fantasy; Running Time: 1 hr., 48 min.)

Monkey Kingdom
A beautiful eco-film from Disney, the story follows the exploits of a band of Macaque monkeys of Sri Lanka who live in an abandoned Buddhist temple ruin.  The heroine is Maya who is the lowly one within their rigid social structure.  She gets impregnated by a stranger named Kumar to give birth as a young, single mother to Kip.  The group are forced out of their home by a rival band of monkeys, so Maya must learn to survive and care for her newborn.  (Available in theatres everythwere; Genre: Documentary; Running Time: 1 hr., 25 min.)
