Starting Anew in 2015

Beyond 50 Wishes you an Abundant and
Prosperous New Year!

For those who are intent on achieving ALL of their New Year resolutions, we offer these thoughts from Asher Fox, last week's guest on "Fat to Fearless" to better understand the inner saboteurs within our subconscious mind.  His program shows you what tools and techniques are needed to align your subconscious in achieving your goals.

The Three Levels of the Subconscious Mind:

According to Fox, there are three primary mechanisms the subconscious mind uses to hold your existing beliefs in place and keep them from easily changing.

Critical Gateway - To change your core beliefs, you must convince your subconscious that the new beliefs that you want are true.  The Critical Gateway begins to form around age seven and is usually solidified by our early-teen years.  It is one of the mechanisms of the subconscious mind that preserves your existing belief and thus serves the subconscious mind's function of always proving itself right.  To do this, new information that contradicts your old beliefs and reinforces the new ones must reach the subconscious.  For this to happen. you must  get the Critical Gateway to open.

Reticular Activating System (R.A.S.) - Unlike the Critical Gateway, which is a psychological construct, the R.A.S. is a set of connected nuclei that connects the brain stem with the cortex.  It determines what you pay attention to, specifically what is brought to your conscious awareness.  The R.A.S. has many functions, but the one most relevant to our ability to change core beliefs is that it acts as a filter, determining what information that comes in through our senses is brought to conscious awareness and what is sent directly to the subconscious.

Inner Critic - It preserves our negative subconscious beliefs.  It convinces us we aren't good enough by setting a standard we can never live up to.  You will soon learn that it take both our conscious and subconscious minds to defeat and transform our Inner Critic.  While you may consider this voice to be "you," in actuality, it's an internalized subconscious response from childhood.  It is important that you realize that this critical voice is not who you are.

And then there is our three primary ego states to deal with, which are the Inner Child (that speaks the language of emotions and source of our most powerful emotions) vs. Inner Critic vs. Adult Self.

 Secret Shopper:
America's Largest Christmas Bazaar

If you missed the annual "America's Largest Christmas Bazaar" at the Portland Expo Center in Oregon, we've got it covered.  Beyond 50 is always on the lookout for what's trendy, unique and innovative.

We couldn't taste the candies in the bags that were infused with the Kava herb for anti-stress, insomnia and anxiety, even hot flashes.  Although, we did get a taste of big game in dried meat from  alligator and boar that was delicious (by Armando: 503-409-3265).  You'll want to store them in round plastic containers that are built with a mini-vacuum pump so it's heat resistant and food lasts 3X longer.

For survival, it's best to use a knife that was designed by a former Green Beret.  His is seriously SHARP: made from German steel (not stainless steel) that's layered and folded.  You can use it to skin and elk or moose with one blade and almost no re-sharpening.  Moving on to the softer side of life: teddy bears made of leopard, fox, rabbit, muskrat, and mink (by Nancy Demory: 360-573-6688).

To enhance your beauty, we tried their skin blend of coconut and sugar  (that's a better exfoliator).  Sugar is best.  Salt in facial scrubs makes tiny cuts in the skin.  If you've got short lashes, how about coloring them purple and making them 300X fuller?  One vendor says to buy her water-based skin care products.  Mineral oil just sits on the skin's surface, so you want mineral oil-free.  To look really good, how about decorative earrings made from a halibut's ear.  The number of rings on it gives away the fish's age.

For the guys, their supplement drinks contain Octopamine to break down fat cells and stop the burning of lean muscle mass.  You'll also get their customized workout regimen for 8-weeks to look buff.

And last, SAVE THE BEAVER!  The imitation vanilla in yogurts, other foods and skin care products is really from the glands of this furry creature.  Buy real vanilla from vanilla beans
