An Exercise to Try:
Transform Cravings & Addictions

Addictions

Beyond 50 encourages you to try an exercise called Parts Integration. Taught by Holly Stokes, she is an NLP (Neuro-Linguistics Programming) practitioner and the author of "Lighten Up! Train Your Brain to Slim Your Body."

Step 1: Set Up. Holding your hands out in front of you as if you are ready to receive a gift (your feet should be flat on the floor, your elbows at right angles and your hands should be about 8 inches or so above your knees). If you could package up the problem and put it into one hand or the other, just notice which hand does it seem to fit with best? Let that hand represent the "problem." (Note: If you find one hand doesn't connect with the problem more than the other, just imagine packaging it up and putting it into the one hand.)

Step 2: Compare. Now, turning your attention to the other hand, notice what you experience there by contrast at the same time. (If one hand represents the problem, what does this hand represent? You may notice pictures, words, feelings, sensations, just notice.)

Step 3: Positive Intention. Turning your attention back to the hand that holds the problem, ask the part in charge of the behavior, "What is it trying to get for you?" (What is the positive intention behind the behavior?) Often the first response that pops into your head is from your unconscious mind, there may also be more than one answer. Usually the answer is a sense of something. If you get a tangible response, for example, money, ask yourself: What does that represent for you?

Step 4: Redirect. Now ask yourself, What would be a better way of connecting with that feeling?

Step 5: New Job Agreement. Now ask the part in charge of the old behavior, Would it be willing to be in charge of the new focus?

Step 6: Positive Intention. Turning your attention to the other hand, ask that part, What does it represent? What does it want for you? (You will find these higher intentions will match up if you keep asking the question, What will that get for you?)

Step 7: Acnowledge and Appreciate. Now, turn your attention to the part that holds the problem, ask yourself, What can this part (the part that holds the problem) appreciate about what the other hand is trying to do for you? Get an answer.

Now, turning your attention back to the other hand ask yourself, What can this hand appreciate about what the other hand is trying to do for you?

Now ask yourself, How does each part feel now that it is recognized and appreciated"

Step 8: Align to Your Outcome. Turn your attention to the positive future that you are now creating, see it out in front of you. What does that look like for you? Now ask yourself, How can both of these part work together to create that positive future?

Step 9: Integration. Your conscious job is to be a passive observer, just notice what comes to mind, thoughts, pictures, images, etc. Say this phrase out loud, "I ask my unconscious mind to begin moving my hands together, but only as quickly as it is able to integrate these parts at all the right levels, all the right ages and place sof me, as they are creating harmony and alignment with the positive future I am even now creating."

as your hands are moving together, you might notice resistance, which indicates an objection.

If you notice reisistance from either of these perspectives, address the objection in a positive way until you feel your hands drawing together and allow your fingers to interlace. Let the movement happen naturally, typically the hands will move together slowly and may take as much as 20 minutes. As your hands come together, you should have a positive feeling of well-being.

Step 10: Acknowledge the Integration. Bring your hands to your heart, and take in a deep breath, as you allow these changes to be integrated at all the right places, all the right levels, all the right ages of you. Taking all the time you need in the next few minutes and seconds until it feels complete.

Entering Your Dream Worlds
Inception

If you haven't seen the newly released sci-fi film, "Inception" (in photo above), we recommend that you watch it for the story's unique dream concepts. Dom Cobb (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) is hired to enter the human mind through dream invasion to plant an idea. He plans three layers of dreams within dreams for the mark.

When we asked Gillian Holloway, a dream interpretation expert and author of several books on the subject, about how anyone can program their mind for lucid dreaming, she offered these suggestions:

The best way to start having lucid dreams (of knowing you're dreaming while it is happening) is to immerse yourself in dreams for a few weeks or a month. See movies about dreams, read books on them, talk to friends about them. Write your dreams down in a journal. Having dreams on the mind is the fastest way to start having lucid dreams!

Here is a good affirmation to program yourself for lucid dreams:
“Once a week, I want o have and remember a lucid dream, in harmony with my sleep, in line with restful dreams and down-time; this is safe, healthy, and a part of my personal growth.” Then let go and go to sleep normally. Becoming lucid can happen in phases, so give yourself credit for any recognition or moments of awareness in your dreams. This will grow and progress like any skill.

Gillian Holloway
We encourage you to tune in to Gillian Holloway's interview this Friday at 1:15 p.m. (PT)/4:15 p.m. (ET) to talk about dream symbols and what they reveal about your love relationships. Feel free to join in the conversation to share your dream experiences.
