PG-50+ Movie Reviews
Beyond 50 only recommends films that are creatively responsible to reveal the finest qualities of the human spirit; allow you to think and feel deeply about life; make your heart soar; and champion human rights.

Slumdog Millionaire
This is a heartwarming, rags-to-riches story of an 18-year-old orphan and street urchin named Jamal of Mumbai, India. He becomes a national icon for being a popular contestant on the East Indian version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire". Even though he is poorly educated, he manages to answer many of the obscure questions, leading him closer to winning 20 million rupees. You'll be smiling after watching this film. (Available in Theatres Everywhere; Genre: Art/Foreign, Drama, Comedy, Teen; Running Time: 2 hours)

Harvey Milk
This is a compelling film portraying the first openly gay official (in photo at left) in California. A colorful and energetic leader, Harvey Milk served for 11 months as a City Supervisor and was responsible for passing a stringent gay rights ordinance to help his disenfranchised community. He and San Francisco Mayor Gorge Moscone were murdered by City Supervisor Dan White who had resigned and wanted his job back. (Available in Theatres Everywhere; Genre: Drama, History; Running Time: 128 min.)

Whaledreamers
A film by Julian Lennon, it was financed through him in an angry response to a surprise decision by the Japanese government to resume whaling. It beautifully shows the return of an aboriginal tribe from the edge of extinction and the equally, long journey of the whales, not only to survive the slaughter by man, but to engage the human race into waking up in time. (Available on DVD; Genre: Documentary, Drama; Running Time: 1 hr., 21 min.)
